I wanted to share two of my favorite statements by Cornelius Reid. There is so much unfortunate teaching about breathing, support and so on. The feeling of support is something that will happen, when the voice is able to operate freely, not something, that we can create artificially.

‚Functional‘ is a very popular catchphrase in vocal pedagogy these days. I am hardly using it anymore and rather referring to Cornelius Reid as my teacher, even though he coined the term ‚functional voice training‘. Too often ‘functional’ becomes synonymous with ‘mechanical’, which would be the opposite of what Reid wanted.
